Project Information

RMT Learning succesfully applied to Scottish Union Learning Development Fund for funding to work in the maritime sector for two years starting in April 2015. The project will be based in the Highlands and Islands and its aim is to engage with the 1200 staff employed by ferry operator Caledonian MacBrayne on the west coast of Scotland. The main objectives of the project are to provide workers with learning opportunities enabling them to progress in their career, improve the IT literacy levels of workers, particularly older workers who are digitally excluded. The project will also explore innovative ways to make learning accessible to sea faring workers often excluded because of geography and anti-social work patterns, while developing the ULR infrastructure to embed a learning culture onboard and onshore.
